Who Should Perform Your Pet's Surgery?
If your pet needs surgery your veterinarian will determine whether the procedure is one that she or he feels comfortable performing or requires the experience and skill level of a board-certified surgical specialist for optimal care. Treatment by a surgical specialist happens either in a specialty hospital (i.e. you and your pet are referred to a different facility) or in the familiar environment of your primary care veterinarian's hospital with a so-called "mobile surgeon". Ask your primary care veterinarian which approach is best for your pet and inquire whether mobile surgeons are brought in to their practice for advanced procedures.
